Former Tennessee Vols tight end McCallan Castles was on track to make the Philadelphia Eagles' 53-man roster this fall before an injury interrupted those plans.

The Philly Voice predicted last week that Castles, who was signed by the Eagles as an undrafted free agent earlier this spring, would make Philadelphia's 53-man roster this fall.

They noted that Castles "flashed" early in training camp and is "definitely worth developing".

Unfortunately for Castles, his NFL dreams were put on pause this past week. The former Vol was waived by the Eagles with an injury designation.

Castles cleared waivers and reverted to Philadelphia's IR.

The former Vol suffered a leg injury during an open practice last week.

Castles certainly has the skills to carve out a role in the NFL. But an injury during training camp is brutal for an undrafted free agent. Teams just can't tie up roster spots with injured undrafted free agents -- even for players that seemingly have potential.

The former Vol will still have some chances in the NFL after he recovers from the injury, but he'll have to persevere through some early adversity.
