Colts RB Trey Sermon went the extra mile to improve a specific element of his game this offseason

The Indianapolis Colts chose not to make a move for a backup RB after Zack Moss departed the team in free agency.

Which has Trey Sermon as the clear favorite to win the job ahead of the 2024 season. Today, he shared that he has been intentionally working on improving his ability as a pass catcher to help him get on the field.

It's one thing to say you want to improve at something, but it's another to have actual application. And that's exactly what Trey Sermon did this past offseason. After practice Friday, Sermon shared with the media that he worked with a wide receivers coach this offseason in Florida.

Sermon's three-year NFL career has only produced three receptions, all of which came during his rookie season with the San Francisco 49ers. The team seems to be planning on Jonathan Taylor returning to a "bell-cow" type RB role this season after a healthy split with Moss a year ago. Which wont leave a whole lot of snaps for the rest of the RBs to fight for. So, if Sermon can become a reliable pass catcher out of the backfield, it would go a long way toward him carving out a role in this offense. During Friday's training camp practice, we saw his hard work pay off, as he caught one of Anthony Richardson's three passing touchdowns during the team's 11-on-11 periods .
