Ohio State freshman Jeremiah Smith shuts down a rumor that had Buckeye fans worried for some time

There may not be a player on the Ohio State roster that is being talked about more than Jeremiah Smith. The crazy passer about it is that he is a freshman and that does not happen all that often in Columbus. Sure, a freshman will come along that can contribute early. But a player that is being talked about as a potential star from Day 1 , yeah that doesn’t happen much in Columbus.

Ohio State was able to land the No. 1 player in the class of 2024 and they had him committed for well over a year before he ended up in Columbus. Ohio State had to fend off other schools from December 2022 until Smith arrived on campus as an early enrollee. It was rumored that a school like Georgia was going to flip Smith late, but that was never the case.

“I wasn’t, I wasn’t flipping at all,” Smith said on Friday. “I don’t know why people made it seem it was that. I was a Buckeye and that’s it.”

Smith comes off as a pretty quiet guy who lets his play do the talking . He turns it up a different notch on the field. Smith isn’t your typical recruit who is super active on social media, especially like you would think a former No. 1 overall recruit is. The maturity is something that his Ohio State teammates and coaches have pointed out about him.

Smith doesn’t have to have a huge role from Day 1, but he is going to be a contributor for the Buckeyes offense. There is reason to believe that he is going to be one of Will Howard’s top targets along with Emeka Egbuka, Carnell Tate, and Brandon Inniss.

Ohio State will open their season at the end of August against Akron and that will be the first look at Smith, who wanted to be in Columbus all along. The 6-foot-3 target is going to become a fan-favorite and he may already be.
