Despite the uncertainty, the Carolina Panthers continue claiming running back Miles Sanders has a place on the team.

However, the eye test doesn't agree with that assertion. Carolina's starting running back, Chuba Hubbard is back. The team also drafted Texas running back Jonathon Brooks, who is still recovering from an ACL injury . Sanders appears to be the odd man out.

And as it turns out, the Dallas Cowboys are keeping a close eye on how things progress with Sanders in Charlotte.

According to ESPN senior NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler, the Cowboys have some interest in Sanders as it still attempts to sort out its log jam in the backfield.

"The Cowboys know they face questions at running back after losing Tony Pollard to a bigger contract in Tennessee," Fowler writes . "They will monitor the Ezekiel Elliott-Rico Dowdle-Royce Freeman experience, while keeping a short list of external options, just in case. Carolina’s Miles Sanders is on that list."

Sanders remains the preeminent disappointment from the 2023 season.

He inked a four-year, $25.4 million deal with the Panthers after a career 2023 campaign with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Carolina was bucking the trend of not linking running backs to long-term deals and it blew up in the franchise's face instantly.

Sanders started five games, racked up a measly 432 yards, claimed one touchdown, and carried the ball 129 times. It was bad.

Dan Morgan and Dave Canales stressed Sanders has a place on the team. But if he doesn't, the Cowboys appear eager to make a deal with Carolina soon.

"We love Miles," Morgan said after the draft . "We see a big role for him. We think really highly of Miles. He can do a lot for our offense. He’s versatile in the passing game and he’s a really good runner. So we’re excited about him."
