The Dallas Cowboys are about to kick off their preseason by taking on the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday. Fortunately, they'll play their first game of August with their top rookie and potential starting left tackle, Tyler Guyton, ready to go.

Per DallasCowboys.com's Nick Harris , Guyton "won’t start today’s game, but expect him to get some solid burn in the middle portion of today’s game at left tackle."

The update is massive for the first-round rookie as he hasn't participated in team drills in practice since last week , as he's been dealing with an illness that's kept him from participating in live contact. On Thursday, when the Cowboys held a joint practice with the Rams, Guyton "gave it a go" but didn't get on the field, while veteran Chuma Edoga and second-year player Asim Richards split playing time at left tackle.

"I'm not 100% sure he is a 100%," head coach Mike McCarthy told reporters on Thursday before practice.

His lack of action at practice led to some valid questions about how much he'd be able to do on Sunday's preseason opener but now it seems like not only will he play but he'll get a good chunk of the snaps based on Harris' report.

The Cowboys, who have been diligent in tracking players' workloads in training camp and preseason under McCarthy, had a decision to make ahead of today's game: Would they play Guyton seeking the important reps he needs as a rookie? Or would they preach patience and allow him some "ramp up" practices after missing a week's worth of live contact?

All eyes will be on No. 60 as the rookie continues to compete with Edoga for the starting gig on the Cowboys offense.
