The NFL preseason is now well underway and with every single game there are new young faces emerging as they battle for their professional football futures. Jordan Whittington, a longtime Texas Longhorns wide receiver, is the latest preseason darling as he exploded in the first quarter for the Los Angeles Rams with a couple great plays against the Dallas Cowboys.

Whittington kicked off his first NFL drive by grabbing the first reception of the season for the Rams on a pass from former Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett. But he wasn't done yet. Just a handful of plays later Whittington made one of the best plays of the game snagging a contested slant, bouncing off contact, and taking it for a 30-yard gain!

It was a simple play and read, but Whittington's former five star athleticism certainly flashed on what became a highlight play. Jordan Whittington's underrated strength and speed combination has a great shot to be one of the most exciting aspects of Rams preseason action this year.

He then came back later in the games and made four more great snags, bringing his reception total to six on the game as he eclipsed 70 yards in his first NFL game ever! His deep out route that helped extend the two-minute drill featured yet another impressive strong grab (as you can see below).

Whittington entered college as as five star wide receiver recruit for Texas back in 2019, but struggled to stay healthy for the first three years of his career with the Longhorns. However, after he finally managed to stay on the field Whittington began to show some of his high upside athleticism, as he racked up nearly 1200 yards over his final two seasons while splitting targets with multiple future early NFL Draft picks.

Now with the Los Angeles Rams, Jordan Whittington joins a room with some proven NFL studs in Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua. However, beyond those two, there aren't a ton of top tier talents to compete with, so if Whittington continues to flash in the preseason he has a real shot to stick on the Rams' active roster.

In fact, if he proves to be a better option than journeyman Demarcus Robinson, undersized Tutu Atwell, and perennial letdown Tyler Johnson there's actually a chance Whittington works his way into the WR3 role. Whittington has always had the potential. He just needs to continue taking advantage of every opportunity.
