Former Oregon Ducks quarterback Bo Nix has been having a great training camp , impressing coaches and media alike on his way to locking up the starting quarterback role heading into the regular season, and that trajectory continued today. Nix got his first preseason appearance with the Broncos, and more than delivered.

Bo Nix capitalizes on first preseason appearance with Denver Broncos

In his first NFL action (ish), Nix looked the part. There were times when he maybe stared down a receiver, and a couple times where he double-clutched, but all-in-all, he looked like a quarterback more than capable of running the Sean Payton offense for the Broncos.

Nix finished 15/21 for 125 yards and a touchdown, while tucking the ball and rushing three times for 17 yards, something that Ducks fans are well accustomed to seeing.

Nix's first professional touchdown came on a goal line look to second-year wide receiver Marvin Mims.

It was a beautiful play design from Payton, and a strike from Nix to put the ball out in front of his receiver and away from the quickly-closing defender.

Nix showcased plenty of ability and a few strong highlights

What made Nix so appealing as a prospect was his efficiency – he led all of college football last year in completion percentage at 77.4%. He's a distributor that can get the ball out lightning quick, which will fit perfectly with the offense that Payton wants to run.

Nix also showed today an ability to throw on the run, which, again, Ducks fans know. This ball, rolling to his left and throwing back across his body to put the ball in the perfect spot on the sideline, was beautiful. This throw, by the way, was Nix's first completion.

Another play by Nix, and something that we saw a lot of at Oregon – dropping a dime to a wide receiver on a wheel route and leading him in stride to set him up for yards after the catch.

Nix seems to be doing everything necessary to earn the starting job for the Denver Broncos as they look to retool around a rookie quarterback. Eyes will be on him throughout the rest of the preseason to see if he can continue to further his connection with his new pass-catchers.
