Young Cowboys player might've just saved his job with highlight play vs Rams

Dallas Cowboys cornerback Eric Scott Jr. is fighting for a spot on the 53-man roster. The second-year player, drafted by the team in 2023 after trading up in the sixth round, faces an uphill battle as there appears to be a wide-open battle at the bottom of the depth chart.

Scott, who has generated a lot of curiosity among fans since they've barely watched him play, got off to a terrible start on Sunday's preseason opener against the Los Angeles Rams.

In the first snaps of his day, Scott Jr. had a costly missed tackle and a late hit penalty tacked on him. Naturally, that's the kind of thing that lands you on the wrong end of a "winners and losers" article following a preseason game.

Had the game ended like that for Scott Jr, it would've been easy to move up newcomer Andrew Booth Jr. or Josh Butler above him on the depth chart.

However, Scott Jr. had other plans.

Moments before halftime, Scott Jr. came away with an impressive interception off of Rams backup quarterback Stetson Bennett, who had multiple misfires in the first half, one of which had been picked off by Scott's teammate, safety Markquese Bell.

Although it was a poor throw from Bennett, Scott Jr. deserves credit for making the play. He stops halfway through his path when he realizes the Rams quarterback is telegraphing his target and puts himself in position to make the play.

As of this writing, the Cowboys and Rams are tied at six at halftime. We'll see where Scott Jr.'s stock is at when the ballgame ends.
