Carolina Panthers finally get some good news about its first-round draft pick

Xavier Legette could be back sooner than expected.

On Sunday, Aug. 4, Legette, the 2024 first-round draft pick, left practice with a leg injury. It was later revealed the primary concern was a foot injury.

The Carolina Panthers ran some tests that came back negative, and on Saturday, Panthers head coach Dave Canales gave a positive update on Legette's pending return.

"He's doing great," Canales said. "It’s a day-to-day thing. And we’re just trying to get the discomfort out of the foot completely, clear it up before we start getting him into fast change-of-direction things. So the in-line stuff is great. And we’ll be smart about that and bring him along.”

Legette's training camp has been rather disappointing . It's not that he hasn't appeared to be an effective wide receiver. He hasn't made the athletic freak plays that defined his final year at the University of South Carolina.

Thus far, second-year wide receiver Jonathan Mingo has staked his claim as the third starter next to Diontae Johnson and Adam Thielen.

The injury hasn't helped. However, if Canales' word is true, the wide receiver will be back in action quite soon. And that is a welcomed sign for Bryce Young, Canales and the rest of the offense.
