Former NFL QB makes fool of himself with latest New Orleans Saints hot take on social media

The New Orleans Saints opened their 2024 preseason this past weekend with a narrow win over the Arizona Cardinals. It was not a pretty victory, but rookie k kicker Charlie Smyth hit a game-winning kick to finish off Arizona on the closing moments.

There were some highs and lows for New Orleans on both sides of the ball. Some starters did not play, and those who did, had limited snaps. Later in the weekend, a former NFL player posted a strong take on the 2024 Saints via social media.

Former NFL QB says Saints may be worst team in football in 2024

Kurt Benkert is not a believer in the Saints for the upcoming season. Yet, he gives zero reasoning alongside his bold take on Twitter/X .

He did follow up this post by mentioning the New England Patriots as another option for the worst team in the NFL this year. Regardless, he thinks New Orleans will be a candidate.

Benkert has been known for some strong football opinions since his retirement from the league. He's been active on social media and grown a Youtube channel for his personal NFL and college football analysis.

This latest notion is a head scratcher from him. The Saints are not the most talented roster in football, and they do have some questions to answer, especially on their offensive line. That being said, they had a top twelve overall defensive unit in football last season.

The Saints upgraded their defense in multiple ways this offseason, so it is fair to think they will take a step forward under Dennis Allen this season, too. The linebacker group is elite, and the secondary is one of the most talented in the NFC. Chase Young joins a defensive line group with some legitimate potential.

On offense, Derek Carr must take strides, but there's some quiet confidence in him and the rest of the personnel under new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak. Players have been noting the difference on the practice field under Kubiak's staff, compared to prior years in New Orleans.

Carr is a QB that can get the job done to get the Saints to the postseason this year, and there's no reason to believe that the roster will succumb to a league-worst record in 2024.

It just does not make much sense, especially when you consider what division the Saints play in. The NFC South should be better than last year, but it is still on the weaker side in the NFL.

Let's see if the Saints can prove Benkert wrong this season.
