In the aftermath of the Buffalo Bills first preseason game, in which quarterback Shane Buechele played most of the second half at quarterback, it appears Buechele came out a bit worse for wear, putting the Bills in a difficult spot.

Reportedly, Buechele suffered a neck injury and is set "to miss some time," meaning Bills' GM Brandon Beane needs to quickly find a depth quarterback.

Update: Bills have signed quarterback Ben DiNucci to serve as their third quarterback

The third quarterback spot is crucial for the preseason

In his press conference before practice today, head coach Sean McDermott indicated that they don't want to expose Josh Allen or backup Mitch Trubisky to too much playing time in the preseason.

If they don't want them to play a lot, that means that, if my math is accurate, someone else needs to. Without Buechele, the Bills need to find a third quarterback, and quickly.

McDermott said that he'll be speaking with Beane to determine the best options for bringing in another quarterback. Along with it, McDermott also mentioned that the plan for playing time this Saturday in their game against the Steelers has yet to be determined.

Taking a look around the league, there are a handful of available free agent quarterbacks that could be brought in. Brian Hoyer, Blaine Gabbert, A.J. McCarron, and Trevor Siemian are a few veteran options that are currently without work and could likely be signed to a minimum contract.

With Trubisky out of practice today with a personal matter, Josh Allen is the only quarterback dressed and practicing. Apparently, he's having a bit of fun with it.

It's fair to expect Beane to make a move quickly to address the much-needed quarterback depth during the preseason, with the Bills slated to have a joint practice with the Steelers this Thursday.
