Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid spoke to reporters following training camp practice on Monday, revealing several updates on injured players.

That includes some positive updates on a pair of serious injuries that occurred during the team's Week 1 preseason tilt with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Several players missed practice on Monday as a result of injuries from that game, but the outlook doesn't seem quite as grim as it may have once seemed for a few of those players.

You can watch the full press conference from Coach Reid below:

Hollywood Brown did not need surgery on his sternoclavicular joint injury

Chiefs WR Hollywood Brown suffered a posterior sternoclavicular joint dislocation on Saturday, an injury not dissimilar from one former Chiefs WR Tyreek Hill suffered back in 2019 . Thankfully, that stands true for the repair of the injury as well. Reid informed reporters on Monday, that Brown had the dislocation reduced without the need for surgical intervention.

"Hollywood (Brown), they were able to get the joint back into place without surgery, which is a positive," Reid said. "And then we'll just see on the recovery back in Kansas City now. He stayed over in Jacksonville till they got that thing situated."

The offense will be missing something without Brown on the field, however, the good news is that this injury wasn't much worse. The team doesn't expect an extended absence for Brown, but any time he misses, they feel comfortable and confident in their depth.

"So the positive there is he's going to be back," Reid said. "But without him in there, his experience and that in the league, but we've also got other guys that can step in and play. We'll be, we'll be okay there. It's just, we're pulling for him to, you know, get back."

Asked whether it's reasonable to expect Brown to be available in Week 1 against the Baltimore Ravens, Reid wasn't ready to rule out the possibility.

"Yeah, we'll see," Reid said. "We'll see how that goes."

McKade Mettauer will not need surgery on his knee injury

Chiefs rookie OL McKade Mettauer suffered a nasty-looking injury on Saturday when he got rolled up on by former Chiefs DE Breeland Speaks as he attempted to tackle Ian Book. Our friends at Chief Concerns reported that the fear was an ACL injury for Mettauer, but thankfully that fear didn't come to fruition.

"McKade (Mettauer) had a tear in the MCL, it wasn't the ACL, so that's a positive," Reid said following practice. "No surgery required. He'll just see how he does here in the next few days, how that thing works out. It might be longer than that, but we'll see."

Avoiding surgery and potentially returning in the next few days would be a huge development for Mettauer as he tries to make an impression.

Other injury and absence updates from practice

There were a few more notable absences from the Chiefs' training camp on Monday that Reid went over. Justin Reid and Nick Bolton returned to practice from injury , but players like BJ Thompson and Charles Omenihu remained absent.

"Clyde (Edwards-Helaire) was sick today," Reid told reporters. "(Jaaron) Hayek still, you know, about his shoulder, nothing's changed there. Chris Jones, shoulder, both those guys are making progress."

As for Wanya Morris, he didn't play in preseason Week 1 and sat out of practice after a scary injury last Wednesday that saw the entire team huddled around him on one knee. He avoided serious injury, but he still has a painful injury that he's working through according to Coach Reid.

"Wanya (Morris) had a bone bruise on his knee," Reid said. "Those are pretty painful things, but he's working. He's working through that."

The other absence from practice, Chiefs third-year S Bryan Cook, missed practice for some joyous personal reasons. Expect him to be back out there as early as tomorrow.

"Yes, he was not there," Reid said. "Personal matters, baby on the way."
