In the first release of the College Football Preseason AP Poll, the Oregon Ducks continue their offseason of respect and expectations. After the Coach's Poll was released a week ago , the AP Poll slots them in as one of the top teams in the country.

College Football Preseason AP Poll places Oregon Ducks as No. 3 team in the country

The first College Football Preseason AP Poll slots Oregon in as the No. 3 team in the country, matching their ranking from the Coach's Poll.

Georgia takes home the top spot, with Ohio State ranking as No. 2. Texas is ranked No. 3, with Alabama rounding out the top-5.

The Big Ten is well-represented in the top-10

As previously mentioned, Ohio State is No. 2, and Oregon is No. 3. They aren't the only two Big Ten teams getting respect. Penn State slots in at No. 7, and Michigan sits at No. 9.

Oregon will play both Ohio State and Michigan this year, hosting Ohio State in Eugene on October 12, and will travel to Michigan for a big game on November 2.

In the new conference championship format, there are no longer division in the Big Ten, which will set up a potential Big Ten Championship game between Oregon and Ohio State if they finish the year as the two best teams in the conference.

For the College Football Playoffs in the new twelve team format, the five Conference Champions will get an automatic bid, with seven remaining teams being at-large bids selected by the CFP Selection Committee. Whichever team ends up winning the Big Ten Championship Game will go into the CFP bracket as one of the top-4 seeds, garnering a first round bye.

Essentially, it appears that the two teams that wind up playing in the Big Ten Championship Game will be locks for the CFP bracket, with the game carrying significant meaning for seeding.

As of now, Oregon and Ohio State could be slated for a season-long collision course with potential CFP seeding on the line.
