Ohio State takes a loss off of the football field that Ryan Day has to wish was a different outcome

While it may have been expected, it does not make it hurt any less for the Buckeyes, who have struggled to land big-time recruits consistent along the offensive line as of late.

On Monday, it was Georgia Tech who landed a five-star offensive lineman over the Buckeyes and other schools. 2025 OL Josh Petty verbally committed to Georgia Tech, Ohio State, Florida State, and Tennessee. In the end, Petty chose to stay close to home and you can not blame a kid for that.

Petty is a 6-foot-5, 265-pound offensive lineman out of Roswell, Georgia. Petty played his high school ball at Fellowship Christian School. Some recruiting outlets have Petty as a tackle, while some see him as an interior offensive line. 247 Sports has Petty ranked as the No. 14 overall player in the class of 2025 and the No. 2 offensive tackle.

Ohio State has four-star offensive tackle Carter Lowe and three-star offensive lineman Jake Cook committed but that won’t be enough for the class. The Buckeyes are in pursuit of five-star offensive tackle David Sanders Jr. , but things are not looking good and he very well could end up at Tennessee . Sanders will announce his commitment on Saturday.

At some point, offensive line coach Justin Frye and the Buckeyes are going to have to hit on these big swings again for the trenches. Lowe was a nice get but he is an instate kid and that is a bit different. For now, all chips are in on landing Sanders on Saturday .
