Former Georgia star points out what could derail Bulldogs from finishing atop AP poll

The 2024 Associate Press dropped its Top 25 preseason college football poll on Monday and the Georgia Bulldogs are anchoring the number one spot for the second year in a row.

But former Georgia star David Pollack is doubling down on one of his recent takes ,  believing it's going to be a very tough season for the Bulldogs to finish on top.

"I get why Georgia is #1 to start the season. But will be totally STUNNED if Dawgs end regular season with that ranking. Brutal schedule man!! Good luck Coach @KirbySmartUGA ."

Georgia faces four teams (Texas No. 4 , Alabama No. 5 , Ole Miss No. 6 , Clemson No. 14 ) ranked in the top 15 on the road this season, which will certainly make those matchups that much tougher for them.

And that's why Pollack even has gone as far as to say that Georgia might not even reach the SEC Championship game.

"Georgia could be the best team… I don’t know how the format is going to work... But to me, there are four teams, and at least two of them are getting in. I would argue maybe a third could get in," Pollack said during an appearance on Outkick Hot Mic . "I think Georgia’s schedule is going to be so hard for them to maybe get to the SEC championship game. But do they sit at home and watch the SEC championship game and then go to the playoffs? I think that could really happen this year for them."

Smart isn't one to pay attention to rankings or hot takes, but they've definitely got to be hard to ignore within a program as big as Georgia.

The Bulldogs will look to prove Pollack and the rest of the doubters wrong soon enough though when they take on the Tigers at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Aug. 31.
