Denver Broncos add a new defensive weapon for their upcoming preseason game against the Packers

The Denver Broncos won their first preseason game of the year. Well, not because the score said 34-30, but because they saw what they needed to see out of rookie quarterback Bo Nix to get a good feel for what he could be in 2024. But, it's not over yet.

Sure, all of the attention last week was on the offense, and rightfully so, but you may have missed that the defense and their depth were great. They certainly could have been better in that department, and are looking for any and every upgrade possible.

So, that's what they have done. On Monday, the day after the game, the Broncos went and placed a waiver claim for a player that had been waived, and, they came out on top.

According to the team's Twitter account, the Broncos claimed Kaleb Hayes off waivers, who was formerly on the New York Giants and the Jacksonville Jaguars' practice squad.

Sure, Hayes was waived, so you may think that he may not be very good, but that is not always the case. And, just think, Sean Payton and George Paton wouldn't just go after anyone -- they obviously think that Hayes can help the depth, or even make a push for the practice squad, and maybe the 53-man roster as a bubble guy. Who knows.

But, in this next game against the Green Bay Packers, we will see if he has what it takes to stick around, and it will be on limited time in this defensive scheme. That is if he plays. If he does well in this small amount of time, I think there is a chance the Broncos continue to give him a shot.

Hayes is a 25-year-old from Pasadena, California, and played college at BYU. He is 5'11, 195 pounds, and can play nickel or outside corner if needed. With this move, the broncos have cut LB Alex Mock, whom they just signed a few weeks ago . Mockj played just 12 snaps on Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts.
