Ohio State has gotten the job done on the recruiting trail for the 2025 class and while it is not perfect, it is the No. 1 class in the country according to most recruiting services.

There is still work to do for the Buckeyes and they have a big storyline to follow this weekend with No. 1 offensive tackle David Sanders Jr. set to announce his verbal commitment. Sanders is down to Tennessee, Georgia, Nebraska, and the Buckeyes. Sanders will commit on Aug. 17 at 7 p.m. ET and Tennessee currently holds the crystal balls, according to 247 Sports.

The Buckeyes could really top off their class if they gained the commitment of Sanders, but even if they don’t land him they surely end up with a top-3 class in the country and a chance at holding down the No. 1 spot.

    Ohio State’s 2025 verbal commits

    QB Tavien St. Clair

    CB Devin Sanchez

    CB Na’eem Offord

    OT Carter Lowe

    LB Tarvos Alford

    RB Bo Jackson

    DE Zahir Mathis

    DL London Merritt

    TE Nate Roberts

    WR De’Zie Jones

    S DeShawn Stewart

    LB Eli Lee

    S Cody Haddad

    S Faheem Delane

    WR Quincy Porter

    RB Isaiah West

    WR Bodpegn Miller

    OL Jake Cook

    DE Zion Grady

    TE Brody Lennon

    DL Trajen Odom

    DL Maxwell Roy

    LB Riley Pettijohn

    DL Jarquez Carter

    DL London Merritt

    Ohio State’s key commits

Ohio State has 24 commitments and could end up with somewhere closer to 39 when all is said and done. The most important commitment for the Buckeyes is five-star quarterback Tavien St. Clair, who just happened to be an in-state player as well. Offensive tackle Carter Lowe, running back Bo Jackson, linebacker Eli Lee, offensive lineman Jake Cook, and wide receiver Bodpegn Miller are the players from Ohio who committed to the Buckeyes.

Devin Sanchez and Na’eem Offord are the two five-star cornerbacks committed to Ohio State. Four-star Faheem Delane joins them to join a very talented secondary at the top end of the class. Riley Pettijohn and Tarvos Alford are both high four-star linebacker commits. Defensive end Zion Grady and wide receiver Quincy Porter are other top-100 players.

    What’s left for the Buckeyes?

Sanders is in the mix for Sanders until they aren’t and he is the top remaining target as mentioned. If the Buckeyes could land Sanders, they would likely end up with the top 2025 class in the end and it would be a great finish. Still, there are other spots the Buckeyes will look to add to.

The Buckeyes are still four-star recruiting running back Anthony Rogers and could look to flip the Alabama verbal commit. Wide receiver Phillip Bill is another player the Buckeyes are in the mix to land. Kentucky wide receiver commit Preston Bowman and Oregon safety commit Trey McNutt are two prospects from Ohio that the Buckeyes are going to continue to recruit.

    Final outlook

It will be interesting to see if the Buckeyes can flip any players committed to other schools and on the reverse side they need to hang on to all of their commitments until signing day. The biggest letdown could be Ohio State’s lack of getting their top targets along the offensive line. They missed out on five-star offensive lineman Josh Petty and are predicted to do the same with Sanders. That is a tough blow for offensive line coach Justin Frye and even Ryan Day.

In the end, the Buckeyes are going to end too with a top-heavy class that has elite recruits at key positions. Another top-five class for the Buckeyes will help their cause to continue to build an elite roster year in and year out.
