Chiefs OC Matt Nagy reveals which wide receiver has stepped into the lineup following Hollywood Brown's injury

Kansas City Chiefs WR Marquise "Hollywood" Brown appears to have avoided the worst as far as his sternoclavicular joint dislocation is concerned.
The injury didn't require surgery to reduce the dislocation , and he was able to be discharged from the hospital in Jacksonville and return to Kansas City in short order. There remains some optimism that Brown will be available to play in Week 1 of the 2024 NFL season against the Baltimore Ravens, but the team is still in wait-and-see mode. They'll have to see how the injury heals over the next few weeks to make that determination because there is a higher risk of reinjury if that joint isn't stabilized.
As the final week of training camp in St. Joseph, Missouri continues, the Chiefs have been without Brown. During the game against the Jaguars, Brown was replaced by veteran WR Skyy Moore , but during practice this week it's a different veteran receiver who has replaced him alongside Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy in the starting offense.
Justin Watson is the next man up in place of Hollywood Brown for Chiefs
Asked whether the team has changed up the offense at all in Hollywood Brown's absence, Chiefs OC Matt Nagy revealed the lone difference comes with personnel. Instead of Brown, the Chiefs are using WR Justin Watson alongside the rest of the starters.
"Nothing real different right now, other than J-Wat (Justin Watson) stepping in, which — J-Wat has been so great," Nagy said. "He's invaluable in the fact of just understanding every spot. So, for him to kind of know this offense, where he's at, steps right on in, we change the name of the personnel, you know, per se, and the guys just keep rolling, but they're doing a good job. And I think it's one of those deals they just got to know that it's a next-man-up mentality. And we want Hollywood (Brown) to get back as soon as he can, but we got to keep rolling, and we got the guys to do it."
Yesterday, there were reports from practice that Justyn Ross, Skyy Moore, and Mecole Hardman all rotated in with the first-team offense in 11-on-11. However, when the pads came on for Tuesday's practice, it was Justin Watson who they relied on and for a very specific reason: Trust.
Watson knows the offense and all three receiver positions better than anyone else. He can slot in without the offense missing a beat and gives them the best possible chance to execute at a high level. Watson wasn't available to play in preseason Week 1 as he continues to work his way back from an early training camp foot injury, but it's reasonable to expect that he'll be the one to slot in for Hollywood Brown with the starters moving forward.
