2025 five-star offensive lineman David Sanders Jr is set to announce his commitment on Saturday (August 17) and the prevailing feeling is that the talented recruit will choose the Tennessee Vols over Georgia, Ohio State, and Nebraska.
On3’s Steve Wiltfong recently predicted that Tennessee will land Sanders, which has increased optimism among UT fans that Josh Heupel and his staff will win this key recruiting battle.
While it seems likely that Sanders will commit to Tennessee, Vols fans won't feel confident until they see him put on a UT hat (and keep it on) at his commitment ceremony on Saturday.
Recent comment from David Sanders Jr bodes well for the Tennessee Vols
With just a few days to go before hie announces his decision, Sanders and his family spoke with The Charlotte Observer about his recruitment.
Sanders told the Observer that his decision will come down to which program has the best family atmosphere.
"I’m a big family-oriented person," said Sanders . "I want to go somewhere where I can feel that family atmosphere, where on my worst day they will still treat me like I was their son. I feel like I’m at home, so it’s not like, “let me go back home.” I can just stay there and feel like I’m a peace with myself for making my decision. And all four of those schools you can’t go wrong, academically or athletically, so I’m really going to lean on those personal relationships built through this process.”
Tennessee might have the best family atmosphere going in the nation right now.
And that's not lip service from the Vols. They live what they preach when it comes to family.
For example, at Tennessee's scrimmage last Friday night, players' families were invited to come out to Neyland Stadium to truly make it a "family atmosphere".
"Tonight we had a bunch of families that were out watching their sons go compete," said Heupel after the scrimmage. "So it was a lot of fun just hanging out with them a little bit before we got started with warmups, and a great night for Tennessee football."
If Sanders wants a true family atmosphere at a program that can get him to the NFL while competing annually for a national championship, then Tennessee is the place for him. Which is why it would be a bit of a surprise at this point if Sanders doesn't commit to the Vols on Saturday.
