Mike McDaniel enhances concern with projected Miami Dolphins starter's injury with two words

The Miami Dolphins had appeared to have solved one of many of their questions on their offensive line with a simple re-signing that went under the radar for many in the 2024 offseason.  As it turns out, the Dolphins might now have yet another concern area on their line as the start of the regular season inches closer.

Guard Isaiah Wynn, who re-signed with Miami back in March , is dealing with what head coach Mike McDaniel referred to on Wednesday as "compounding stuff" with his injured quad from 2023.

"There's just compounding stuff once in a while that you just want to make sure is fully healthy," McDaniel said in response to a question about whether his issue is related to the same quad injury from 2023. "It's lower extremity related.  I'll really leave it at that."

Compounding stuff certainly isn't what you want to hear about an injury significant enough to cost Wynn the rest of his 2023 season after Week 7 against Philadelphia. The Dolphins' starting left guard suffered a quad injury on Sunday Night Football against the Eagles, which apparently has continued to linger throughout the offseason.

If Wynn isn't ready to go, the Dolphins will likely go with Robert Jones there, with Liam Eichenberg the most likely candidate at right guard.  Right now, the Dolphins' starting center Aaron Brewer is dealing with a hand injury that McDaniel previously termed as week to week.  As such, there's a lot of uncertainty when it comes to the interior of the Dolphins' offensive line, which was already a major concern after the first wave of free agency when Robert Hunt signed with the Carolina Panthers .

The Dolphins could really use a healthy and effective Wynn - who was playing well in the early stages of 2023 - to help stabilize this still worrisome positional area.
