The Los Angeles Chargers are bringing in veteran defensive tackle Teair Tart for a visit on Wednesday, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Tart was released by the Miami Dolphins on Tuesday after just signing with them back in April. The Dolphins hoped Tart would make for a good replacement for Christian Wilkins, but coach Mike McDaniel stated that it was apparent that Tart wasn't going to be a proper scheme fit for their defense.

Many are wondering if effort issues on Tart's behalf played a role in his release. He reportedly showed up to training camp in poor shape, which reflected in his performance. Tart quickly fell down the depth chart and he did not play in Miami's preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons last week.

Tart's effort issues stem from what many describe as a general bad attitude that he carries. The Tennessee Titans released him back in December after it was obvious that Tart wanted out based on the way he was carrying himself. During his rookie year in 2020 Tart was suspended for one game for violating unsportsmanlike conduct rules after stepping on a player.

Despite his baggage, Tart is a talented player and is still just 27 years old. After being signed as an undrafted free agent by the Titans in 2020, Tart worked his way up to starting 36 games over the course of four years. He recorded 79 tackles, 2.5 sacks, 16 tackles for loss, 16 quarterback hits and seven pass deflections during that time.

As a big run-stuffer, Tart is best suited as a nose tackle for a 3-4 base defense. That could make him a fit for Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter's scheme. The Chargers certainly have a need at defensive tackle, and Tart could be at least a solid contributor if Minter and head coach Jim Harbaugh can get him to buy in and put his best foot forward.
