The Kansas City Chiefs are inching closer to the 2024 NFL season as they get set to face the Detroit Lions in preseason Week 2. It's the team's first game at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium this year, so they're sure to get a warm welcome from the fans. Both clubs are 0-1 to start the preseason, which means they'll be vying for their first win of the year.

With training camp at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Missouri having wrapped up , this preseason game is one of the most important for evaluation from the coaching and personnel staff. Starters will get an extended look during the game, as will the players on the second-team offense, defense, and special teams units who are vying to make the roster.

There are plenty of ways to watch/stream the game and not miss a moment of the action.

The game kicks off at 4:00 p.m. ET on Saturday, August 17. Ari Wolfe and Trent Green will be on the call. If you're in the Kansas City area, the game will be locally broadcast on KSHB-TV (NBC/41). The game will be nationally broadcast on NFL Network ( along with every other Chiefs preseason game this season ). The game can also be streamed live via the NFL's "NFL+" subscription service if you're not in the local broadcast market. You can watch on local stations in the following markets, per 506sports :

    • KMOV (CBS/4 - St. Louis)
    • WIBW (CBS/13 - Topeka KS)
    • KWCH (CBS/12 - Wichita KS)
    • KOZL (My/27 - Springfield MO)
    • KQTV (ABC/2 - St. Joseph MO)
    • KODE (ABC/12 - Joplin MO)
    • KQFX (FOX/22 - Columbia MO)
    • KMTV (CBS/3 - Omaha)
    • KJRH (NBC/2 - Tulsa OK)
    • KDSM (FOX/17 - Des Moines IA)
    • KNWA (NBC/51 - Fayetteville AR)
    • KAUU (CBS/5 - Anchorage AK)
    • KGMB (CBS/9 - Honolulu)

If you're in the Detroit area, WJBK (FOX/2) will carry the game locally. Jason Ross Jr. and Golden Tate will be on the call in that market.

Weather report and other notable details about preseason Week 2

It's going to be a scorcher out in Kansas City on Saturday. There will be a high of 90 degrees, but with the humidity, it'll feel more like 97 degrees when you're out in the sun. There's a 25 percent chance of precipitation and a six percent chance of thunderstorms throughout the day, but the expectation is that it should be clear for the game. Via Chiefs: Guests are permitted to enter the stadium with one factory-sealed water bottle, 20 ounces or less, if they choose. Water fountains are located throughout the concourses of GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.

As for whether Detroit Lions starters will be played on Saturday, that remains to be seen. Dan Campbell said much earlier this week that he's "back and forth" on it, but also that he's "open to everything." I guess it'll come down to how much they accomplish in practice this week and whether they've got any injuries that scare them away. After their division rival lost their rookie quarterback for the season , I'm not so sure they won't be hesitant.

Typically, Chiefs HC Andy Reid says they will play the starters for the first half in the second preseason game. Rarely will they ever play the full first half or even the full first quarter for that matter. We'll likely see Patrick Mahomes play a few series, and then Carson Wentz will take over with the first-team offensive line for a series. Then the second team will begin to rotate in. We'll likely see something similar on defense and special teams.
