Insider names favorite between Texas and Georgia to flip elite recruit from Iowa

The Texas Longhorns and Georgia Bulldogs are locked into a recruiting battle for 4-star offensive tackle Nick Brooks. Brooks, a 6-foot-7, 360-pounder from Loganville, GA, was previously committed to Iowa. He decommitted in November and is now set to announce his future destination on August 23.

One insider has logged an official prediction for Brooks, and it's not surprising these three schools are considered finalists. USC was also in Brooks' final four, but they're no longer in the mix.

Both Chad Simmons and Steve Wiltfong of On3 have put Texas as the favorite to draw the massive linemen away from Georgia.

With a prediction of 54 percent certainty of Brooks headed to Texas, compared to 23 percent to Iowa and 17 percent to Georgia, things are trending toward the big man leaving his home state. This isn't insignificant that Iowa is over Georgia, despite the Bulldogs continuing to be involved.

Georgia has produced five draft picks at the tackle position over the last five years, which is three more than Texas. Iowa continues to stack recruiting losses because their offense sucks, as seen with Kadyn Proctor leaving for Alabama.

The Bulldogs have more than doubled Texas' draft production over the last five years as well, so why are they losing on Brooks?

It's possible NIL has played a part. Maybe Texas has upped its offer despite 5-star OT Michael Fasusi also leaning toward Texas. It's possible Fasusi will bolt to Texas A&M, and Brooks is now his replacement.

Here's an overview of Brooks from a scout's eye :

Enormous young offensive tackle prospect with immense size and above average movement ability. Verified multiple times in spring of his sophomore year in the 6-7, 345 range. Adequate length and carries his mass relatively well considering size.

Overwhelming size and functional strength in the running game. Generally displays good hand placement in the majority of situations. Flashes promising athleticism when traveling to the second level. Limited throws reps as a freshman but that does qualify him as a multi-sport athletic profile. Naturally high center of gravity compromises leverage. Gets too far out over his feet at times. More catcher than puncher early on, but has flashed encouraging engaging punch in some pass pro reps.

Still growing into frame and developing balance / body control, which will help with occasional overcommitting and susceptibility to counters / secondary rush. Projects as a high-major offensive tackle prospect with high-floor competency and high-ceiling long-term potential.
