Texas, LSU, and Oregon look to flip elite 5-star recruit by selling dual-sport future in football and baseball

We rarely see top football recruits' interest in another sport sway their landing spot. Occasionally, one or two within the top 300 lists will be good enough to demand playing time in baseball or another spring sport. Right now, it appears 5-star safety Jonah Williams is trending toward programs offering the chance for him to play baseball.

Once projected to go to Oklahoma and then Texas A&M, the elite safety is now trending in a new direction. On3's S teve Wiltfong 's latest report has the Aggies still in the mix, but it's Texas, LSU, USC, and Oregon battling them. Here's some of the latest tea.

Williams is 6-foot-3, 195 pounds, and is an all-around great athlete. He totaled 474 receiving yards and eight touchdowns as a junior, then added 58 tackles and four interceptions on defense. The fun part is when we consider his baseball influence.

A left-handed pitcher, Williams can throw up to 94 mph. He's also quite good at basketball, but playing both football and basketball isn't possible due to the overlap in practices and games in the fall. With his commitment date coming on August 24, it seems as though Williams is especially eyeing Texas and Oregon.

The On3 prediction machine has Oregon at a 50 percent chance of landing Williams, but their baseball program doesn't hold a candle to Texas'. Texas poached the best baseball coach in the country from Texas A&M, which is partially why the Aggies dropped in the race after it looked like a done deal.

Here's what Williams had to say about Texas previously, "Texas has always been a sleeper for me,” Williams told On3’s Steve Wiltfong about his most recent trip to Austin. “No one thought I was still interested in Texas.”

His father added, "I really liked the culture. What Coach Sark has accomplished there I’m really impressed with. I’m really impressed with Coach Sarkisian and the method he’s beginning to accomplish things. I think all the players are very in tune to what he’s trying to teach there. I’m very impressed with that.”

With the way Texas has been exploding in recruiting battles and the advantage they have with their baseball program, I think we'll get crystal ball predictions for Williams to go to the Longhorns before too long, but I haven't been able to get a scoop on Williams' leanings just yet.
