The New Orleans Saints had a veteran player get the short end of the stick from a former NFL quarterback. Dan Orlovsky ranked QBs around the NFL, entering the 2024 season.

Orlovsky explained how he came to his rankings, categorized by different traits for a quarterback.

To answer that question, I decided to stack the best of the best in seven different traits: arm strength, ball placement, mechanics, decision-making, pocket presence, rushing ability and second-reaction creativity. These top-10 lists are based on current performance and expectations for the 2024 season -- how I would rank the QB group at this moment in each skill. Let's start with the most powerful arms; you can also jump to any of the other categories below. -- Orlovsky, ESPN

If you didn't take time to read that blurb, check out the specific aspects that he took into account in list form below.

    • Arm strength
    • Ball placement
    • Mechanics
    • Decision-making
    • Pocket presence
    • Rushing ability
    • Second-reaction creativity

Derek Carr snubbed by Dan Orlovsky's QB rankings

With those traits involved, Saints QB Derek Carr did not make a single top ten list. Therefore, the former pro QB does not believe that any major part of Carr's game is very notable, compared to his counterparts around the NFL.

I'd have to agree- based on those specific parameters set up by Orlovsky. Carr certainly does not deserve consideration for the rushing ability, ball placement, decision-making, or arm strength aspects. That's not an argument.

As for second-reaction creativity, I feel that Carr's limited mobility hurts him there. he can only provide himself extra time to make a play so often because of a lack of speed. Carr's mechanics are good, but the names ahead of him here make sense.

Carr's pocket presence was quite good in the second half of last season, even amid some inconsistent OL play. It's not an elite part of his game by any means, though.

Overall, not a shocker to see Carr left out by Orlovsky. I don't think there's too many bones to pick on the specifics regarding the Saints QB here.
