Dave Canales reacts to the dumbest play the Panthers made during joint practice with the New York Jets

As things change they tend to stay the same.

And at the Carolina Panthers' joint practice with the New York Jets, a fight broke out. What's new?

Several players had to be separated from one another during practice, and one Jets player came in on the blindside. The scuffle started after Terrace Marshall Jr. reeled in an impressive touchdown grab over Jets cornerback D.J. Reed. The ball was flipped toward the standout defender. Reed didn’t take kindly to the move and a scuffle followed.

After practice Thursday, Panthers head coach Dave Canales took to calling out his team for getting involved with the fight.

"It’s dumb football,” Canales said. "We wanna celebrate with each other. We wanna make big plays and give the opponent nothing. This is the exact type of stuff that I’ve been hitting them on, especially going into this practice."

The New York Post also reported that Gang Green defensive lineman Micheal Clemons was throwing punches in another altercation.

In comparison to other training camp fights this year, this one was rather calm. The New York Giants and Detroit Lions were both fined $200,000 this month for their fair share of incidents.

Still, Canales believes the Panthers made some head-scratching moves to arrive in a scuffle.

“You can’t afford to give the opponent anything," Canales said. "Not the ball, not a penalty, not false starts and pre-snap things, aligning offsides. Those are all the things that marginally, they just add up and they flip the field and it makes it even harder."

    Canales, keeping a level head.
