Eagles HC Nick Sirianni isn't ready to give up on Kenny Pickett at QB2

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni doesn't think that there's a backup quarterback competition happening.

Following the Eagles' Week 12 preseason win over the New England Patriots on Thursday, Sirianni confirmed that Kenny Pickett is the team's QB2, which leaves Tanner McKee as their QB3.

"You saw where they went in today," Sirianni said after the game. "Kenny's number two. Tanner's our number three and I'm really happy that those guys are both on the roster."

Pickett completed 11 of 13 passes but for a disappointing 67 yards, while McKee finished throwing 15-for-19 passes for 140 yards and an outstanding 97.4 passer rating.

Pickett was also sacked four times.

It's the second week in a row that Pickett hasn't looked sharp and McKee has outshined him.

But Sirianni is ignoring that notion and believes both quarterbacks, including emergency QB Will Grier, all performed well.

"I thought they but did some good things today," Sirianni continued. "I think Kenny was what, 11 to 13 (completions). The ball only hit the ground twice but he had some pressure on him. Tanner played well. I think he was 15 to 19 today, but made some good throws. I thought Will did some good things. I'm happy they're all on the roster right now. I really am. That's a good room and they're all helping Jalen. They're all helping each other and I love that, so it really is a good room."

Sirianni even went as far as to put the blame on his coaches for not drawing up the correct plays to eliminate New England's pressure.

"The things that kinda stalled some of the drives in the first half today was some of the pressures that we got and we didn't run it great in that area either," Sirianni said. "I thought they both played a solid game tonight, just some of the pressure that was on Kenny happened in that first half."

What Sirianni is ignoring is the fact that Pickett doesn't look comfortable at all, even when there is zero pressure on him, and then when there is, instead of making a quick decision, he looks panicked and holds onto the ball for way too long.

The Eagles have one more preseason game on Aug. 24 against the Minnesota Vikings. If Pickett doesn't look better, it's time to reevaluate the QB2 position.
