As LSU fall camp continues, three key potential stars are emerging ahead of the 2024 college football season

Every year new stars emerge for LSU during fall camp. This year looks like it won't be any different. As the team's continued to practice the wide receiver group is gaining some clarity. The final pieces to the offensive line are coming together. And the cornerbacks that were a problem last season? They might actually be a plus this year. Let's dive into the three players who are clearing things up as the 2024 college football season approaches.

Kyren Lacy is the new LSU WR1

Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr. might be gone, but the next clear WR1 for LSU looks like he's already here. Kyren Lacy has been looking good all off-season making huge plays since early spring practices, but he's looking too smooth now. Watch as he glides into a slant route against Jordan Allen and takes it for a score in the post below from this week's practice.

One thing Lacy has obviously improved this off-season is his route running. That's given him much greater natural separation which has led to more consistency and smooth finishes on his receptions. But even when he doesn't get technically "open" his ball skills have been on constant display, dating back to the first practices this spring (as you can see below).

While Chris Hilton Jr. and transfer wide receiver CJ Daniels have also looked great as the other two likely starters, Lacy is emerging as the clear top dog. Expect an absolutely massive season from him this year.

DJ Chester is the new starting Center

The LSU offensive line returns four starters this season, and looks like potentially one of the best units in the country. The one question has been concerning the center position, but it looks like that's in good hands. DJ Chester has emerged as the clear new starting center, and he has the full confidence of his teammates. The staff moved him to guard for one day of practice too (likely just to get some reps if necessary in-season), but he's going to be a star at center.

Garrett Dellinger (starting guard) said that, "[Chester]'s constantly working, constantly studying film...[Offensive line teammates] don't ever have to question whether he knows what he needs to be doing on a play."

And starting right tackle Emery Jones Jr. also spoke glowingly of Chester saying, "[Chester]'s in there the most probably watching film. Just kind of getting used to what he's going to see this year."

Chester has been working hard all off-season long for this massive opportunity ahead of him. LSU should be in great hands at every single offensive line spot now.

Ashton Stamps looks like top cornerback

It's no secret that LSU's defense was one of the worst in the entire country last season. But this year it should (or could) be much different if cornerback Ashton Stamps has anything to say about it. Stamps continues to make plays every day at fall camp and has emerged as a trustworthy starting cornerback as a true sophomore.

Stamps had two passes defended in one short practice session just this week after grabbing some interceptions the week prior. Multiple teammates have been calling him "CB1" and that's what it looks like he's going to be. Now that he's up to 190 pounds this off-season it seems he's winning with speed, length, and some increased physicality at the point of attempted catches.
