Michigan is going to need a lot of new players to step up this season after losing around 20 players to the NFL this spring. As fall camp has progressed there have been more than a handful of players stepping up who could play pivotal roles for the Wolverines and new head coach Sherrone Moore both this year and perhaps beyond! Let's dive into the top three emerging stars heading into the 2024 college football season for Michigan.

Alex Orji is impressing at quarterback

It's been largely assumed by many that Alex Orji would eventually win the starting quarterback job for Michigan this off-season, but he finally seems to be officially separating himself at fall camp. He's reportedly been making some great plays on the ground and through the air, proving his upside extends beyond just an intense understanding of the offense and his raw physical talents.

Orji looked great in limited action at the spring game for Michigan, but mainly starred with Donovan Edwards in the rushing game on Team Maize's opening drive as he scored the first touchdown on the ground (as you can see below).

If Orji does indeed continue to improve as a passer on top of being a massive Cam Newton clone physically Michigan could threaten to have a special season once again.

Zeke Berry pushing to star at nickel

Zeke Berry was another young player who stood out in the spring game that has seen his breakout extend into fall camp. Berry snagged an interception in the spring game and reportedly practiced well throughout this off-season, but many believed veteran Ja'Den McBurrows still might hold on to the nickel position replacing Mike Sainristil this fall.

Not so fast. Berry has continued making plays and is now pushing McBurrows and the safety group for work at both nickel and safety. This former top tier four star talent is likely going to earn near starter snaps at some position this fall. His versatility makes that unclear for now, but he could be special for Michigan this season.

Jordan Marshall the next great RB?

Michigan just continues bringing in elite running back talents. Jordan Marshall has reportedly already looked like the next great one in fall camp.

Donovan Edwards should be the feature back this season, and Kalel Mullings looks like the obvious number two given his experience and build. However, after that it seems that Jordan Marshall may have won the battle for RB3 and could be the presumed starting running back in 2024. Even if Edwards struggles or injures his knee again the depth beyond him looks strong thanks to the emergence of the true freshman Marshall.
