Three burning questions the Pittsburgh Steelers need to answer against the Buffalo Bills

The Pittsburgh Steelers are gearing up for their second of three preseason games.

Welcoming the Buffalo Bills to town on Thursday, the team's got an appetizer of what the actual game would look like during a joint scrimmage.

And within that scrimmage, there were plenty of questions that were raised about the state of the Steelers.

Here are three that need to be answered come the final whistle on Saturday night .

Is Van Jefferson Capable Of Being The WR #2?

Though there is a lot of smoke about a WR trade in Pittsburgh , until there's an actual fire, Pittsburgh is looking at Van Jefferson to be the man opposite of George Pickens on the offensive perimeter.

And to be honest, with his debut and training camp in the rearview, the Steelers have to feel good about Jefferson.

He may have only one season over 800 receiving yards, but there's a Super Bowl ring on his finger and he has been a reliable target for both Justin Fields and Russell Wilson all summer.

If he can continue that against the Bills defense on Saturday, he may answer any questions about the team's WR corps.

Can Justin Fields Overtake Pole Position at QB?

Russell Wilson is going to start on Saturday night , that much is confirmed. How long he plays will be up to Mike Tomlin, who anticipates four series, but notes that nothing is: "Etched in stone."

And it would be rich to assume that Wilson stinks up the joint in his debut, but Tomlin could get antsy if he turns the ball over, turning to Fields quicker than he may have planned.

But even if Wilson plays well, Fields has the chance to play better, taking the bull by the horns and building off his debut last week.

If so, we could head into the final week of the preseason with a real competition on our hands.

    Who is CB #2?

Joey Porter Jr. will hold down the fort as the Steelers top corner, that much is certain. And while the team traded for Donte Jackson to be his running mate, Jackson has been limited since last week with an injury.

That allocated first-team reps for Cory Trice Jr. during the last week of camp, and he took the opportunity and ran with it.

Bouncing back from a season-ending injury in camp last year during his rookie season, Trice may push Jackson for his starting role, and a strong showing against a Bills team that may play their starters would be a good start in doing such.
