Cowboys player literally not listed on team's website might be playing his way into the team

The Dallas Cowboys' cornerback battle at the bottom of the depth chart is intensifying two games into the preseason, as only four players at the position appear to have a secured spot:

Starters Trevon Diggs, DaRon Bland, and Jourdan Lewis and fifth-round rookie Caelen Carson. After that, it's an up-for-grabs type competition with one or possibly two roster spots at stake.

On Saturday night, an unlikely contender saw his stock skyrocket after finishing the game as the Cowboys' highest-graded defender by PFF : Kemon Hall.

Hall, who was signed by the Cowboys when training camp was already under the way, is looking for a spot on the team after originally spending time with the team in 2020. At 27 years old, Hall has been with five different franchises since 2019, and was considered a longshot to make the 53-man roster. Now, it's looking like a very real possibility.

Sure, we can overthink it but the fact of the matter is Hall has been making plays in camp and in the exhibition games. Against the Las Vegas Raiders, Hall recorded his second interception of the preseason and allowed a meager 19.4 passer rating off of his competition. This time it was for a pick six, as he did a great job setting up Aidan O'Connell and running through the INT. Hall also totaled two pressures in three pass rushing snaps.

Now granted, Hall wasn't perfect, missing at least one tackle in the day, but he is making himself noticeable.

That's saying a lot for a player who literally is not listed on the DallasCowboys.com official roster at the time of this writing. Considering even includes defensive linemen Jordan Phillips and Carl Lawson, who were added a few days ago, it's fair to speculate Hall's absence on the roster is an oversight.

That will be fine with Hall as long as the coaches don't overlook him as well. Right now, he's locked in a battle that includes the recently-acquired Andrew Booth Jr ., a former second-round pick out of Clemson, as well as Josh Butler, Eric Scott Jr., and Josh DeBerry.

Israel Mukuamu, listed as a safety, mostly played nickel cornerback on Saturday, and he's likely a part of the competition. It's safe to say Hall faces an uphill battle.
