New Orleans Saints' 2024 NFL draft class might be cursed before even playing a down in the league

The New Orleans Saints just finished another sloppy, inconsistent outing against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 2 of the NFL preseason . New Orleans has been banged up so far since training camp began. That was taken to another level on Sunday evening with a few more injuries.

Is this year's draft class for New Orleans already cursed? Probably not - but it certainly feels like it.

The entire 2024 Saints draft class has dealt with an injury already

Giving props to John Hendrix for pointing this out on social media during the Saints' game against the 49ers.

    • Round 1: Taliese Fuaga (back injury, rested vs. 49ers)
    • Round 2: Kool-Aid McKinstry (knee injury vs. 49ers, not considered serious)
    • Round 5: Spencer Rattler (thigh contusion vs. Cardinals, considers himself to be 100% now)
    • Round 5: Jaylan Ford (hamstring injury, did not play vs. 49ers)
    • Round 5: Bub Means (shin injury, played vs. 49ers)
    • Round 6: Khristian Boyd (TBD injury vs. 49ers)
    • Round 7: Josiah Ezirim (ankle injury)

While many of these ailments are not considered to be long-term, they are still injuries. They have to be monitored and taken care of.

In the case of Fuaga, he is the Saints' starting left tackle. Losing him for any amount of time would heavily hinder the OL for New Orlenas. Dennis Allen believes that he will be ready for Week 1 of the regular season.

McKinstry's injury is not believed to be serious, according to Allen. He will probably miss some time since it is a knee issue, though. More updates on him to come this week.

Rattler and Means are seemingly healthy after suffering injuries earlier in training camp/preseason. The status of Boyd and Ezirim remain a bit cloudy. Boyd was playing good football for a late-round pick before suffering his injury on Sunday night.

Ford's injury has hurt his ability to showcase his athleticism in a crowded linebacker room. With his absence, Anfernee Orji has impressed, especially in the game against San Francisco.

Overall, the injuries continue to mount up for the young Saints class . Hopefully, this is not a sign of what's to come for many of these guys. New Orleans needs them to be available in 2024 and to continue to develop for future seasons.
