Former draft pick among the Browns players that may’ve lost their job this preseason

We are getting closer to the tough part of the preseason where teams around the NFL cut down their rosters to 53 players for the regular season.

The Cleveland Browns just became one step closer to doing just hat with their preseason loss to the Minnesota Vikings. The Browns went with all backups and some depth battles played out on the football field.

Following the second preseason, it is becoming more clear who could be on the outside looking in when it comes to making the team.

    DT Siaki Ika

Things just haven’t clicked for the second year player and I believe he is in a tough fight to stay on then roster . The Browns have quite a few defensive tackles that can give them quality snaps on the interior. Ika was one of them battling for a spot after a less than stellar rookie season.

Against the Vikings, Ika continued to get blown off the ball and does not look like he’s taken a step. I would be surprised if the Browns kept him on the 53-man roster at this point.

    RB Aidan Robbins

Cleveland will have to do their best to run the ball efficiently until Nick Chubb is able to return, whenever that is. They will lean on Jerome Ford and D’Onta Foreman to do the job, as well as running back Nyheim Hines when he is healthy and ready.

Coming into training camp, Robbins was an undrafted free agent competing for a chance to stick as a practice squad guy. I’m not sure the Browns should even do that. Robbins is a big, slow running back that is not doing much of anything when he has the ball in his hands this preseason. Against the Vikings, it was six runs for 17 yards. The Browns can find better for the practice squad.

    On the bubble …

    QB Tyler Huntley

The backup quarterback battle is one to watch as cutdown day gets closer and it could be trending toward the Browns keeping the younger Dorian Thompson-Robinson. DTR has had a better preseason to this point and after thinking into it deeper, I think he nearly has this job on lock.

Huntley was brought in to compete and perhaps be a guy that the Browns could flip for a pick like they did with Joshua Dobbs last season. After his two interception performance against the Vikings, I don’t see that happening.

At times, Huntley is a veteran quarterback who really has the offense under command. Then, he makes a bad play or a play where you are asking yourself did he really just do that? DTR has taken better care of the ball and that matters. Cleveland drafted Thompson-Robjnson and will surely take the upside at the No. 3 quarterback job surely.
