One day after announcing his retirement , Colt McCoy learned he would be enshrined in the Texas Athletics Hall of Honor.

One of the greatest quarterbacks in UT history headlines a stellar class of 12 Texas exes who will receive the highest honor the athletic department can bestow this fall. The annual ceremony will take place at 7 p.m. in the LBJ Auditorium and Conference Center on Sept. 20. Tickets are $25.

McCoy’s retired No. 12 jersey has been a fixture inside Royal-Memorial Stadium for years. He was a two-time consensus first-team All-American and twice named the Walter Camp Football Foundation national player of the year from 2006-09.

McCoy would go on to play 14 seasons in the NFL before announcing his retirement in a slick YouTube video posted Monday.

McCoy isn’t the only UT football player going into the Hall. All-American and Super Bowl champion defensive lineman Alex Okafor (2009-12) is getting the nod, as is two-sport star Marquise Goodwin (football 2009-12, men’s track 2009-12).

Okafor was a star at Pflugerville High School, located just outside Austin, and raced onto the scene. He started as a sophomore and would eventually notch 12.5 sacks as a senior. Okafor played nine seasons in the NFL and logged 115 games.

Goodwin was the 2012 Alamo Bowl offensive MVP with 50 career games and ended his career ranked 11th on the all-time receptions list (120) and sixth in kickoff return yards (985). He was also a two-time NCAA long jump champion, seven-time All-American and five-time Big 12 champion.

Goodwin won the long jump title at the 2012 U.S. Olympic trials and finished 10th overall in the London Olympics.

Texas men’s basketball star Reggie Freeman is finally getting his overdue induction into the Hall of Honor. Freeman was one of the best scorers in school history and the first player in UT history to play in four NCAA Tournaments. He still ranks fourth on UT’s scoring list with 1,958 points.

The Horns will also honor two-time All-American shortstop Omar Quintanilla, easily one of the best middle infielders in school history. He was a key part of UT’s 2002 national championship team and had four hits in the 12-6 title-clinching win over South Carolina at the College World Series.

Karen Nelson Walters is also getting her due as a six-time All-American and 10-time Southwest Conference champion on the track. She was a versatile sprinter, jumper and relay performer for three NCAA championship teams (1986 indoor, 1986 outdoor and 1988 indoor).
