One former Oklahoma Sooners linebacker is finally getting the shot he has always deserved. Dashaun White, a former linebacker with the Sooners from 2018 to 2022, just signed with the Las Vegas Raiders.

I may not need to tell you what the Raiders are getting, but, let's go over a bit of what White did during his time in crimson.

Over his career with the Sooners, White accumulated 249 tackles, showcasing his ability as a tackler. He also recorded 5.5 sacks, and two interceptions, and was involved in several key plays that defined games. His best season was arguably his last, where he notched a career-high 90 tackles, demonstrating his growth and adaptation to new roles within the defense.

Initially known for his traditional linebacker role, White transitioned into what was termed the "Cheetah" position under Coach Brent Venables. This role required him to cover more ground, play against a variety of offensive sets, and handle both run and pass defense effectively.

His ability to adapt to this hybrid role was crucial for the Sooners' defensive strategy, allowing them to maintain three linebackers on the field in various formations without losing effectiveness against the run or pass.

Despite not being invited to the NFL Combine, which might have been due to the depth of linebacker talent that year or his specific skill set, White's Pro Day was significant. He aimed to showcase his speed, agility, and strength, posting respectable numbers in the 40-yard dash and other drills. His performance at Pro Day, coupled with his college stats, positioned him as a potential late-round NFL Draft pick or a free agent signee.

White then signed to play in the UFL. Now, on Tuesday, he was signed by the Raiders for a chance to earn a roster spot in their last preseason game against the San Francisco 49ers before they face the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 1.

Hopefully, White gets enough of a shot that he can make the 53-man roster, and if not that, then the practice squad.
