Alabama football dynasty anything but 'over' despite what one national ESPN commentator might claim

The Alabama college football dynasty is anything but "over" regardless of what some experts might want the masses to believe. Nick Saban built the greatest dynasty in the history of the sport during the most competitive age college football has ever endured. That much isn't up for debate at all.

However, some believe (rather loudly) that the dynasty is now over. Especially now that Kalen DeBoer is at the helm. In fact, ESPN's Paul Finebaum stated this rather confidently on Wednesday when asked about the Alabama dynasty.

Finebaum has consistently been one of the first college football pundits to announce that any run, any success, any staff, and any team is done over the years. It's one of the safest bets to make in all of sports because eventually every castle comes crumbling down. But in the case of Alabama's dynasty, Finebaum couldn't be any more wrong.

    Alabama dynasty isn't going anywhere

In the first ten years of the College Football Playoff era the Alabama Crimson Tide won 127 football games. For those who might struggle with math, that's averaging nearly 13 wins per season . They have not lost more than two games in a single season throughout the playoff era. And despite all the doubts from Finebaum (and other experts this off-season), there's plenty of evidence to suggest that the Alabama dynasty isn't going anywhere.

In Alabama's "down" year in 2023 they defeated Georgia for the second time in the last three meetings to win the SEC Championship. Alabama is the only team to have beaten Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs since the start of the 2021 season.

They then just barely lost to Michigan in overtime of the College Football Playoff semifinal matchup where, on the last play of the game, their center forgot how to snap the ball (as he had struggled with all game). Had they won, Alabama's superior collective talent would have crushed Washington in the same way Michigan went on to do in the championship.

And while Nick Saban's retirement could spark some worry that the Alabama dynasty might be coming to an end, the hiring of Kalen DeBoer and what he's done since should dispel any notion of the sort.

Yes, star safety Caleb Downs, wide receiver Isaiah Bond, tight end Amari Niblack, and the center who couldn't hike a football transferred out, which was initially worrisome. But since the initial shock of Saban's retirement DeBoer has been taking every step necessary to make sure the dynasty continues.

He made sure that five star offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor returned to Alabama after his cup of coffee with Iowa. He brought with him All-American center Parker Brailsford and breakout wide receiver Germie Bernard from Washington. DeBoer made sure to hold the defense together and add some talent to it by retaining five star defensive tackle transfer LT Overton, five star cornerback transfer Domani Jackson, star Michigan safety Keon Sabb who is already emerging as a leader , and other stars-in-the-making.

But DeBoer hasn't just done a great job with returning talent and the the Transfer Portal. He's also made sure that the Alabama standard on the recruiting trail has been maintained this off-season. Since joining the Crimson Tide DeBoer has landed commitments from 19 total total recruits in the 2025 class. S ix of them are industry consensus five star players. 16 of them are blue chip talents! So much for the,"But can he recruit?", detractors.

DeBoer landed his foundational five star quarterback in back to back Texas high school football state champion Keelon Russell . He's brought in five Top 100 defenders headlined by five star cornerback Dijon Lee to anchor the future of the Crimson Tide defense. Alabama's class currently ranks second for next year and DeBoer isn't even done yet.

When you mix Kalen DeBoer's elite career winning record as a head coach (104-12) with the Transfer Portal wins, high level recruiting, and the incredible roster the Crimson Tide already has in place with Jalen Milroe at the helm the Alabama dynasty is clearly far from done. In fact they might just win a national title this season. Despite a few loud haters doubting them, Alabama's betting odds to win the whole thing still sit fifth among all 134 FBS programs. Expect those odds to rise sharply in the coming weeks and months.
