Aaron Rodgers will not play in the 2024 preseason . New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh announced on Thursday that starters won't face the New York Giants on Saturday, the preseason finale for both teams, and the veteran quarterback will sit as well.

Immediate backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor won't play either, meaning that Adrian Martinez and Andrew Peasley will be the only two available quarterbacks.

"His mobility is plenty," Saleh said about Rodgers, pointing out that the coaching staff is comfortable with where the quarterback is at in his recovery from the Achilles injury .

    Preseason plan

Aaron Rodgers historically doesn't value preseason action much. Even though he played against the Giants last year, and even threw a touchdown pass to Garrett Wilson , it was more of an outlier. In his final years in Green Bay, he wasn't play before week 1.

"Preseason is not what it used to be," Rodgers said earlier this training camp. "It's to see if young guys once the lights go on, and the pads go on, and the tackling happens, if they can show up or if they don't. So, what's there to gain?"

Without any preseason action, Aaron Rodgers will return to play only on September 9, when the Jets open their regular season schedule against the San Francisco 49ers in California.
