Commanders make weak position group even weaker by trading away former first round first pick

We have officially reached the time of year when teams start making roster moves.

With the final week of the preseason approaching and the roster cutdown date looming, the Washington Commanders started to trim the roster early, making a rare interdivisional trade:

Jahan Dotson Traded to Eagles

Dotson was the 16th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, posting a solid rookie campaign of over 500 receiving yards and seven TDs. He had some injuries during his sophomore season, but the move is still head-scratching nonetheless.

For one, it's very rare to see trades occur in the same division. Sure the Commanders have a new front office, but GM Adam Peters has been around the block and knows that trading players to a team as good as the Philadelphia Eagles is an odd move.

Beyond that, the Commanders announced earlier this week that rookie QB Jayden Daniels would be the starter come Week 1 and now his plethora of weapons has been weakened, with the only proven WR being Terry McLaurin when surveying the roster .

We'll see if there's a follow-up move or if this goes down as a head-scratcher.
