Texas ex Adonai Mitchell wasted no time during minicamp flashing his tremendous potential. On Thursday, Mitchell wouldn’t be stopped en route to paydirt against the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Indianapolis Colts grabbed Mitchell in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, and he’s working on becoming a possible No. 3 receiver.

Mitchell caught a short pass in the Colts’ preseason game, rumbled into end zone for a 9-yard score and lost his helmet in the process.

Xavier Worthy got into the end zone for the first time last week with the Kansas City Chiefs. It was finally Mitchell’s turn. The second-round pick spent only one season with the Longhorns, but it was a big one. He tallied up 845 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns.

That dwarfed the two years he put up in Georgia from 2021-22. With the Bulldogs, Mitchell had 560 yards and seven touchdowns in two seasons between the hedges.

Mitchell is expected to compete with Alec Pierce for an outside receiver spot. At the moment, Josh Downs is battling a high ankle sprain, thus opening the door for others to shine.

Mitchell has been leaning on Michael Pittman Jr. for some experience. Now in his fifth year with the Colts, Pittman took Mitchell under his wing and showed him the ropes.

“He’s been in the league for six, seven years, and it’s my first year, so I'm like whatever he's doing, I need to be doing,” Mitchell told Colts.com after his first training camp practice. “The way he worked out, the way he ran routes out there, just everything he was doing, I was like, OK, this is the type of work that I want to have in the offseason.

“He just took me under his wing completely,” Mitchell added. “I’m super grateful for that. He definitely didn’t have to do that at all.”
