Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson throws shade at Patriots regarding quarterback Mac Jones

Mac Jones' tenure with the New England Patriots didn't end very well.

And it resulted in him being traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars in the offseason.

So with a new team and the ability to find his love for the game of football again, Jones has had a promising preseason. Throughout the three games, he has recorded three touchdowns along with 421 passing yards for a 72.2 completions percentage.

And following the third and final preseason game, Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson spoke about what he's seen from the fourth year quarterback. But there was one comment that truly stood out as a possible dig at Jones' former team.

“Mac has played extremely well in the last couple of weeks and has really bought into what we do," Pederson said. "He’ll still revert back to his Patriots ways every now and then, and we have to remind him he’s in Jacksonville.

"But he’s done a good job managing and running the offense, getting everybody involved. He sees the field well, throws a good ball, so he’s done a good job.”

...Reverting back to his Patriots ways...

It's very clear by that comment that he doesn't mean that in a positive way.

    And who can blame him?

Jones had a promising rookie season, but took a serious decline his second and third year. And because of that, many believe that his time in New England came to an end when former head coach Bill Belichick decided to officially bench the quarterback in favor of Bailey Zappe.

With Josh McDaniels leaving to go to the Las Vegas Raiders after his first season mixed with the Patriots inability to bring in weapons to surround Jones with on the offense, it was a recipe for disaster.

And in the end, two key people lost their jobs: former head coach Bill Belichick and Jones.

But the trade to Jacksonville was perfect for the young quarterback.

Jones played high school football at The Bolles School in Jacksonville, Florida, so this is a homecoming for him. And he is competing to serve as the backup quarterback to Trever Lawrence, who was also selected in the 2021 NFL Draft.

However, there is one other possibility for the quarterback this season depending on how things happen.

The Minnesota Vikings lost rookie J.J. McCarthy to a season-ending injury, meaning that Sam Darnold is now the starting quarterback. But if they want to look for another option, Jones' performance in the preseason should lead to some conversation.

    We'll just have to see.
