Positions the Indianapolis Colts could target on the waiver wire after finalizing their 53-man roster

The Indianapolis Colts ended the preseason with a win to finish 2-1 ahead of the regular season.

Now, they turn their focus to cutting their roster down from 90 to 53 by the deadline on Tuesday, August 27.

In years past, the Colts have been active on the waiver wire following the league-wide cuts. Below are two positions that I'm watching cuts around the league closely for the Colts to target.

Postitions the Colts could target on the waiver wire

    Safety:

The first position I'm watching is safety, more specifically, free safety. They are currently set to start Nick Cross, who has had a pretty strong summer. But behind him, I'm worried they don't have an option that I'd feel comfortable filling in at the position. In my final Colts 53-man roster prediction , I had the team cut Rodney Thomas II, and part of the reason I did this was because I truly believe they could find a better option through the waiver wire. If a team cuts a high-upside safety to try and slide them on their practice squad, I think the Colts should pounce.

    Nose Tackle:

After safety, the next position I think the Colts could target is nose tackle. Last year, we saw how bad the team backup options behind Grover Stewart are, as the Colts' run defense struggled tremendously. This led them to sign Raekwon Davis to fill the spot going forward. Sadly, he's missed all of training camp and all but one preseason game. It was still clear in his absence the other options on the team were not good enough to make Davis worry about his job. But I think there is still reason to worry if, for whatever reason, both Stewart and Davis find themself sidelined, the team would most likely turn to Taven Bryan once again, and that can't happen.
