The Indianapolis Colts began the process of cutting their roster down to 53 in the afternoon on Sunday.

While each team is focusing on who should make their own rosters, every team is also monitoring who is released/waived around the league that they could target ahead of the regular season opener.

And a player with experience playing under Colts head coach Shane Steichen just became a free agent.

    Boston Scott

The Los Angeles Rams announced the release of veteran running back Boston Scott as one of 12 roster moves as the team attempts to reduce its roster to 53. Scott signed with the Rams this offseason after spending the last six seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles. Two of those seasons came with now Colts head coach Shane Steichen as his offensive coordinator.

Steichen was the Eagles' offensive coordinator for the 2021 and 2022 seasons. His final year there was the year the Eagles lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl. During Scott's six years with the Eagles, he appeared in 75 games, recording 1,295 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns on 302 carries (4.3 yr). He also had 71 catches for 566 yards and one touchdown as a receiver.

During their first year together, Scott set his career high for carries (87) and touchdowns in a season (seven) in 2021. The Colts don't have a clear backup behind starter Jonathan Taylor, and Scott's familiarity with Steichen's offense could help him come in on day one and make an impact. And if they don't want to add him for the full season, let's hope they at least add him ahead of their matchup against the New York Giants (If you know, you know).
