Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb's deal comes underneath Justin Jefferson's but not in a highly important area

The Dallas Cowboys finally got it done. All-Pro wide receiver CeeDee Lamb isn't going anywhere anytime soon as he's reached an agreement with the team on a four-year deal worth $136 million.

The average value per year (you know? That number fans and media members obsess about but that is really far from being the be all end all in reality) sits at $34 million per year, making him the second-highest paid non-quarterback in the NFL. The top spot still belongs to Minnesota Vikings WR Justin Jefferson, who became the highest-paid receiver earlier this offseason.

Lamb's deal also is short of Jefferson in guaranteed money, with his $100 million guaranteed being $10 million of the Viking's $110 million.

However, Lamb has Jefferson beat in a specific and highly important area: The signing bonus.

As the name implies, the signing bonus will be hitting Lamb's bank account right away (or at least, in Year 1) and it's fully guaranteed. There's nothing that can happen that will keep Lamb from getting that money. It's one of the most important aspects of a deal.

Lamb's came in at $38 million, the highest ever for a wide receiver, barely beating Jefferson's $36.9 million.

More contract details are bound to be coming through in the next few days but so far it appears like there are no surprises: The Cowboys had to pay top-dollar for their top-tier receiver. That's the way things go in the NFL.

Now, Lamb will report back to the team after missing the entire offseason program. He'll have two weeks to be ready for Week 1, when the Cowboys take on the Cleveland Browns' fearsome defense. Whether or not he'll be on a pitch count is a decision head coach Mike McCarthy will have to make in the next couple of weeks.

For now, Lamb is back and the Cowboys' front office turns its attention to getting Dak Prescott's extension. That will be trickier, as Prescott might be seeking over $60 million per year.
