3 most surprising cuts by Philadelphia Eagles that hardly anyone saw coming

It wasn't easy, but the Philadelphia Eagles officially cut their roster down from 90 men to 53 on Tuesday .

Some of those roster cuts, including the three guys below, were very surprising. And hopefully, at least one or two of them, come back to Philly on their practice squad.

After the claiming period has ended at noon on Wednesday, Aug. 28, teams are permitted to assemble their 16-man practice squads.

TE E.J. Jenkins

E.J. Jenkins not only had a solid training camp but also put on a perfect preseason performance, reeling in nine receptions for 66 yards.

The Eagles opted to keep just two tight ends on their roster, which means there is a good chance that Jenkins will return to the team's practice squad if he goes unclaimed on waivers.

Jenkins was initially undrafted out of Georgia Tech last year and was picked up by the New York Jets. He also spent time on the Las Vegas Raiders' practice squad.

WR Parris Campbell

Parris Campbell was off to a great start throughout spring practices and training camp.

There was a point in the offseason when he nearly had the WR3 job locked up, but then Britain Covey and giant rookie Johnny Wilson ultimately ended up beating him out.

And then the Eagles traded for former first-round pick wide receiver Jahan Dotson to fill their need at WR3.

It surely didn't help that Campbell missed a lot of training camp with a groin injury, which makes one wonder if things would have looked different if he hadn't gotten hurt.

If he can manage to stay healthy, Campbell is worth bringing back to the practice squad.

C/G Dylan McMahon

Dylan McMahon had a great training camp and NFL preseason, but it just wasn't enough for the Eagles to keep him on their roster.

What makes this cut so surprising is that the Eagles could use the extra depth on the offensive line at both center and guard, so he may rejoin the team on the practice squad. But like Jenkins, McMahon will need to pass through the waivers.

The Eagles drafted McMahon in the sixth-round pick of the 2024 NFL Draft. He started at guard and center for the Wolfpack and is extremely athletic for a big guy.
