Buffalo Bills answer important questions by signing preseason favorites to practice squad

Roster cut down day was a doozy, with the Buffalo Bills surprisingly parting ways with some players that made great cases for themselves throughout the preseason. Ascending local legend "Buffalo Joe" Andreessen made the initial 53-man roster , which is huge, but other preseason favorites like Frank Gore Jr and Tyrell Shavers weren't so lucky.

After roster cut day is the first day of waiver adds. After that, it was time to work on signing players to the practice squad. Today was equally as important for what the 2024 Buffalo Bills roster will look like as yesterday was.

Along with not making any waiver claims of their own, it was quickly known that none of the players waived by the Bills yesterday were claimed by other teams. After that, reports quickly came in of which players were being signed to the practice squad, which has a 16-player limit.

2024 Buffalo Bills initial practice squad

Things can still change, but as of now, the Bills practice squad looks like this:

    • QB Mike White
    • RB Frank Gore JR
    • WR Deon Cain
    • WR K.J. Hamler
    • WR Tyrell Shavers
    • TE Zach Davidson
    • OL Richard Gouraige
    • OL Will Clapp
    • OL Mike Edwards
    • DE Kameron Cline
    • DT Eli Ankou
    • DT Branson Deen
    • CB Daequan Hardy
    • CB Te'Cory Couch
    • S Kareem Jackson
    • DE Kingsley Jonathan (international player roster exemption)

If you're doing the math at home, that's 16 players, but because Kingsley Jonathan qualifies for the international player roster exemption, the Bills still have one open spot on their practice squad.

Bills bring back preseason standouts on the Practice Squad

Gore, Shavers, and Hardy were three of the standout players of the preseason. Gore looked like a decisive running back with solid vision, Shavers showed promise as a lengthy perimeter receiver, and Hardy, despite being undersized, was explosive in the return game and sticky in coverage as a corner.

Being able to bring all three of these players, as well as the rest of the list, back on the practice squad should excite Bills fans. All of them made strong cases to be on the 53-man roster, and could get their opportunity to do so should an injury arise. I'm glad the Bills were able to keep them in the building.
