The Las Vegas Raiders made some moves to get to their initial 53-man roster that not many saw coming. I know I didn't, just based on the predictions I laid out prior to the event. Of course, the 53-man roster we see today is not the same one we will see at the end of the year. In fact, the Raiders have already made changes to their roster after the initial 53-man has come out.

They have released Byron Young, a former third-round pick by the old regime , and have now released cornerback M.J. Devonshire, a seventh-round pick in this draft by Tom Telesco and company, as Devonshire made the initial 53-man roster.

The thought is that the Raiders had room to let him stay on the initial 53-man, and did so so that he didn't hit waivers and someone else picked him up. Now, he will likely head to the practice squad.

Devonshire began his college football at the University of Kentucky for two seasons before transferring to the University of Pittsburgh. In his final season at Pitt in 2023, Devonshire had an impressive performance, recording 34 tackles, eight pass deflections, and three interceptions, showcasing his skills in coverage and as a playmaker.

Selected by the Raiders with the 229th overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft, Devonshire's transition to the professional level was marked by his versatility and athleticism. His draft selection was highlighted by his performance in college, where he not only contributed defensively but also showed capability as a return specialist, which could add value to his role in the NFL.

Unfortunately for him, it just hasn't hit yet, and that's okay. He will be developed into a player that they feel like they can use week in and week out. But, it's just not his time yet. And, when it is, you will know, because he's a player that is sure to make some big-time plays.
