Almost sufficient to form their own team in the NFL, Ohio State has an impressive representation with nearly enough players on the league's initial 53-man rosters for the 2024 season.

On Thursday, when all 32 NFL teams trimmed their squads to the regular-season cap of 53 players, it was revealed that 48 Ohio State players had secured spots on these initial 2024 rosters.

This total doesn't cover players who began their collegiate football journey at Ohio State but concluded it at other institutions, such as Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow from LSU and wide receiver Jameson Williams from Alabama.

The New Orleans Saints and Seattle Seahawks are highlighted for having the most former Ohio State players on their initial 53-man rosters for the NFL season, with four players each.

It also lists former Ohio State players who were let go this week as NFL teams finalized their rosters, including WRs Noah Brown (Texans), Parris Campbell (Eagles), and Xavier Johnson (Bills); guards Wyatt Davis (Browns) and Jamarco Jones (Lions); OL Matthew Jones (Dolphins); DE Jalyn Holmes (Jets); DT Tommy Togiai (Falcons); linebackers Tyreke Smith (Cardinals) and Steele Chambers (Patriots); CBs Kendall Sheffield (Jets) and Shaun Wade (Patriots); and safeties Josh Proctor (Jaguars) and Tanner McCalister (Broncos).

The Cleveland Browns moved center Luke Wypler to injured reserve following a right ankle fracture he suffered in the preseason. Additionally, rookie defensive tackle Mike Hall Jr. was placed on the commissioner’s exempt list amid ongoing legal proceedings from a recent domestic violence arrest. Both former Buckeyes are ruled out from the Browns’ opening 53-man roster but may return this season, with Wypler being ineligible for at least four games.

The text specifies that players who didn't make the 53-man rosters initially may still join teams by Week 1 through other signings, and each team can add 16 players to its practice squad. It also indicates that players who secured a spot on the 53-man rosters might still face release if their teams opt for players cut from other squads.

On Wednesday, Noah Brown inked a deal with the Washington Commanders, coming off his release from the Houston Texans the day before.

Meanwhile, the New England Patriots let go of Michael Jordan, and the Tennessee Titans parted ways with Nick Vannett on Wednesday, even though both were part of their initial 53-man rosters on Tuesday. This reduced the total number of Buckeyes on 53-man rosters to 48.

Parris Campbell re-joined the Eagles, Tanner McCalister went back to the Broncos, Jamarco Jones returned to the Lions, Jalyn Holmes and Kendall Sheffield were taken back by the Jets, all as part of their practice squads after their releases on Tuesday.

Tyreke Smith was welcomed into the Seattle Seahawks’ practice squad, the team that originally drafted him in 2022. Meanwhile, Xavier Johnson reunited with ex-Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud by joining the Houston Texans’ practice squad.
