The Indianapolis Colts have checked most of the needed boxes before they suit up for their regular season opener against the Houston Texans.

They finalized their 2024 initial 53-man roster on Tuesday and are nearly finished building their practice squad.

Now, they have named eight players as captains for the upcoming season, including Michael Pittman Jr., who was the only first-time captain.

The Colts named five offensive players and three defensive players as captains.

    • DeForest Buckner, DT
    • Kenny Moore II, CB
    • Zaire Franklin, LB
    • Anthony Richardson, QB
    • Jonathan Taylor, RB
    • Michael Pittman Jr., WR
    • Ryan Kelly, C
    • Quenton Nelson, LG

    Michael Pittman Jr.

Early in training camp, WR coach Reggie Wayne shared that Pittman Jr. had a milestone on his mind: becoming a first-time captain. That goal is now accomplished, with the team voting him as one of their eight captains for the 2024 season.

He is the only captain who is receiving this honor for the first time, with this being Buckner's sixth, Franklin's fifth, Moore's third, Kelly's second, Nelson's fourth, Richardson's second, and Taylor's second year as a captain. Pittman signed a new three-year contract this summer, which makes him a big part of the team's future. He's been arguably the team's most consistent offensive weapon for quite some time, and now he's solidified himself as a team captain. His voice and pull in the locker room seem to be louder/bigger than ever. I think I speak for everyone in Colts Nation when I say I'm incredibly happy for Pittman Jr. and can't wait to see what he does on the field this upcoming season.
