Imagine being the nation’s No. 1-ranked safety who is a two-sport star and throws a fastball 94 mph and committed to the Texas Longhorns. Life seems pretty good.

How about kickstarting your high school season with a kickoff return for a touchdown?

Jonah Williams did just that Thursday as Galveston Ball started its season against Manvel in Week Zero. The 6-foot-3 athlete moved with such grace, it almost looked too easy for the five-star standout. The 85-yard score will no doubt resonate with the Texas coaching staff, a group excited to lure as many athletic defensive backs it can find.

Williams committed to Texas last week and is expected to try to play both football and baseball.

“Texas just felt like home,” Williams told Inside Texas about his decision. “The life after football part, you really just can’t mess up an opportunity like that when you’re a kid from Texas and when you’ve already started your legacy in Texas. It’s just a dream come true.”

Asked if there was one deciding factor, Williams said, “Just the pros and the cons of every school from my top five schools, I just felt like there were more pros for me than cons in Austin, Texas, and that’s why I chose Texas.”

One game into his high school season, Williams is proving he could be electric.
