Recently, the Las Vegas Raiders, and every other NFL team, cut their rosters down from 90 players to 53, and they added players to their 16-man practice squad roster as well. They already have their practice squad full, with maybe one or two spots available.

And, one of the players, Justin Shorter, the now fifth tight end on the Raiders counting PS and 53-man.

Shorter entered the NFL as a fifth-round draft pick by the Buffalo Bills in the 2023 NFL Draft, initially as a wide receiver. His college career was split between Penn State and Florida, where he showcased his skills, accumulating over 1,500 receiving yards across five seasons.

Despite his size and athletic profile, which includes a 6-foot-4 frame, his transition to tight end came as he signed with the Raiders' practice squad.

Shorter's move to tight end leverages his physical attributes. His size, speed, and agility, which were assets at wide receiver, now make him an intriguing prospect at tight end. This position change allows him to utilize his height and catching radius in the middle of the field, potentially becoming a red-zone threat.

Shorter is already at practice with the Raiders, after just signing a few days ago, and he's already catching passes from Minshew, building chemistry as they go. Shorter is an interesting player, one that could challenge the Raiders. He is a player that also could end up getting signed to another team.

For now, though, he is just working on building that chemistry just in case he needs to hit the field. After all, this will be a 12-personnel offense, which features two tight ends the majority of the time. Who says he can't work his way up?
